Since I was the only one that signed up, I had a one on one with the instructor, and it was very informative session. She explained everything in detail and gave some good examples of different portrait styles. She has a lot of patience and class was good.

I was able to learn what I needed to understand about my camera. The only thing was the class ended an hour earlier. I signed up for 3 hours and I just felt that even if the information was all taught . I felt that one hour is still one hour of being taught was cut short. Whether it was just two people in the class or 10. We sign up for a three hours of lessons. I guess my expectations were high.

So glad I took this class! I had a new camera that I really had no idea how to use. I learned the basics and now I love experimenting with the different settings.

I was able to capture this photo outside my house as I noticed that the dark sky and the illumination of the bottom quarter of the moon was spectacular. Also, was able to get a couple of stars surrounding the moon.

I took this early morning photo at the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge before the sun came up. This Refuge is one of a handful of places where you don't get light pollution from surrounding cities, and be able to take a moon shot with a dark background. I just walked down the main road until I found the perfect place to get this photo.

This photo was taken along the Pharr hike and bike trail. This beautiful Harris Hawk was perched on top of a light pole. This pose shows the hawk to be strong with a stern look watching for its next meal. The strong wind was blowing its feathers that makes it look invincible.

May 10 the northern lights hit a G5 storm, a KP index of 9, the highest it will go, and the best storm we've seen in over 20 years. I drove my 10 year old son north to see them, this was a chance of a lifetime. I managed to get several amazing photos. Canon R6M2, RF10-20mm lens at 10mm, 30sec at f4, iso 1000, manual focusing. This was looking more north-west as most of the bright colours could be seen to the south, west and just north of us.

Cremorne Point is always a favourite choice to capture the southerly sunsets with the Sydney Opera House and the city skyline in the frame. This isn't a long exposure shot but a motion blur added to the water in post production.

Title or Location: Stub Stewart State Park Hilltop area
This was the day of famous Northern Lights visible in most of the North America. Stubs Stewart is the most ideal dark area for star gazing so I reached there around 11pm. As expected, it was full of enthusiasts. The lights were predicted to be at peak between 10pm - 2am. Around 2pm, when we though the "show was over", the lights started getting incredibly bright, and that is when this picture was taken. Interestingly, the lights were bright in some regions and other regions were faded enough to

It's a famous road for Golden Poplars, but I wanted to capture the Milky way passing over trees that have lost their leaves. it was early evening, but the Milky Way was already high up, so I quickly took some photos and returned to Sydney.

Title or Location: Tacking Point Lighthouse, Port Macquarie
Last February, I left Sydney with my friends at 6pm to capture the first Milky Way view of 2024. I was very anxious because I saw a lot of clouds on the way, but I was really happy to see clear skies as I passed Newcastle. When we arrived at the lighthouse, fortunately we were the only ones in the group, so we were able to take photos without any disturbance. The lighthouse light, which was not too bright, was very helpful in filming.
