Nature Photography Meetup

Sunday 10 December
Convention Center Blvd - 10am - 2 Hours
Linda Ramirez
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in McAllen .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

Since I was the only one that signed up, I had a one on one with the instructor, and it was very informative session. She explained everything in detail and gave some good examples of different portrait styles. She has a lot of patience and class was good.

I was able to learn what I needed to understand about my camera. The only thing was the class ended an hour earlier. I signed up for 3 hours and I just felt that even if the information was all taught . I felt that one hour is still one hour of being taught was cut short. Whether it was just two people in the class or 10. We sign up for a three hours of lessons. I guess my expectations were high.

So glad I took this class! I had a new camera that I really had no idea how to use. I learned the basics and now I love experimenting with the different settings.

I was super happy that I was able to capture a beautiful sunse

During my vacation in the Texan hill country, I stayed in a small cabin that doubles as small airplane hangar. I attempted to take a of the cabin lit by the campfire with the MilkyWay behind the cabin.

This is my first picture of the Milky Way. It was taken while vacationing in the hill country of Texas. I followed the advice of many YouTube astrophotographers.

This photo was taken early in the morning around 7:30 am as the sun was coming up. It had beautiful sky colors as it was somewhat cloudy and sun rays were coming through the lighted sky. The photo makes you feel like you are walking down the acces trail to the beach.

Taken with Nikon D7500 with 300mm Nikkor lens. Two male Kingfishers possibly adult male and offspring sitting low by the River Crane. Light was low so had to use a high ISO. Because of this the image had to be denoised . It was then cropped and clarity and texture added in Lightroom. I have a nice triptych of them sitting in three different poses.
